No. 8113 - Scoular Company - Silver Bow, Mont.
American brand grain bins rise from the snow covered Montana landscape. This is the Scoular Company grain complex in Silver Bow. This area is a modelers dream with multiple railroads and abundant switching trackage. Silver Bow is also home to the Port of Montana rail facility that is served by two class one railroads, BNSF Railway and Union Pacific as well as the Butte, Anaconda & Pacific Railway.
The first railroad to this area was the Utah & Northern Railroad in 1881. This narrow gauge railroad was the first railroad in Idaho and Montana. Owned and built largely by volunteer Mormon labor to serve their communities in the Cache Valley in southern Idaho. Union Pacific now owns former Utah & Northern trackage.
On this cold day in March of 2012, Scoular Company SW1300 #1309 handles a string of grain hoppers. This unit still wears former owner Paducah & Louisville Railway’s green and white paint scheme along with their white diamond P&L logo.
